Under 16 girl's
Killester under 16 girls had a tough job on Sunday last to see off a very skilful Drimnagh side with a single point victory. The girls went 12 -0 down in the opening quarter and were struggling to find that first score. Fortunately, Aoibheann Byrne got the ball rolling for the girls. They fought all throughout the 1st half but still trailed by 6 points at the half.
Some strategic decisions from Coach Sullivan really made an impact in the 2nd half. The girls played a full court press and some great steals and scores from Katie Murray really got the team pumped. Team fouls really played a part in the game but in Killester's favour and scores from Emer King and Eimear Beades pushed the girls on.
Last quarter was dog eat dog affair and both teams were in great form. A huge 3 pointer from Caoimhe Moore was vital and put Killester 1 up with 2 minutes remaining. Drimnagh still weren't finished, they scored once more which put Killester down 1 but a fine offensive rebound from Emer Hennebry and put back layup meant the girls were up by one.
With 22 seconds remaining, a quick timeout from coach Sullivan just to calm her team down was very important.
The girls stole the ball and ran out winners with a 1 point victory.
The girls now face Metoers in the Semi Finals which will no doubt be another well fought game.
Well done girls.
" Congratulations to Aoibheann Byrne and Caoimhe Moore from the U.16 girls team, who were selected for the Irish Under16 Development squad. We wish them all the best."
