Killester 42 Tramore 15

Playing against a less experienced Tramore team it was a convincing win. With Eoin O'Neill impressing in his Killester debut hitting a three pointer on his first touch of the ball. Good performances by everyone Paul O'Meara having a particularily good game under the basket. Looking at the other teams we knew we would have to play alot better to progress.

Killester 45 Neptune 43

Excellent performance against one of Corks top teams it was neck and neck the entire way through with no team holding a lead of more then 4 points at any stage of the game. Paddy was at his best pushing the ball and getting layups for our wing players Mark and Paul Scully. With 5 seconds left we are up one point we foul one a neptune player who hits the first free throw then misses the second the ball is rebounded by Mikey Deegan and passed the ball gets to Paul at the half way line with 3 seconds to go and he gets in on the buzzer for the last second lay-up and the win!

Semi-Final

Killester 58 Blue Demons 49

We knew we had our work cut out against this team as they boasted the biggest player in the tournament at 6'4''. We pressed and trapped them for the entire game and tried to keep the ball out of the big guys hands to mixed results. In the first half Shane McMahon was huge finishing everything around the basket and producing his best game of the season. Peter Robinson did fantastic work on the big guy in the first half while we were battling foul trouble and even came up with a huge basket when the game was deadlocked. Once the second half began we started to pull away with Mikey Deegan scoring ten in the 3rd including two big three pointers. At the beginning of the 4th Paddy twists his knee and is unable to continue without a point guard on the floor Demons take advantage and begin to claw their way back in but eventually the pace of the game got to the bigger demons team and they began to foul out putting us into the final with a 9point win.

Final

Killester 37 Neptune 49

The Final was played directly after our Semi it being our fourth game of the day and the fact that we pressed and trapped for the last two of them it was clear we were wrecked. Paddys knee had swelled up like a balloon and was unable to play. Even so the lads worked very hard with Kris Vanhoutte putting in his best game of the day. Paul and Mark did their best attempt to keep us close relentlessly attacking the basket but they built up a ten point lead in the 1st quarter and although we got it down to three in the 4th we just didnt have the legs to finish the job. It was a very worthwhile trip with everyone impressing and hopefully it will give us some momentum heading into the second half of the season.

A thoroughly satisfying win against a good Templeogue team who boasts three Dublin team players and almost always gives us a tight game. We got off to our customary slow start being down 6 in the first quarter but some excellent drives to the basket from Mark got us right back into it in the second with Mikey Deegan and Kris Vanhoutte also scoring freely off a variety of post moves and cuts. We had excellent contributions from our bench with Shane Mahon and Ryan Lattin both scoring and playing excellent hustling defense. In the second half we really started to push the tempo and some impressive fast break points were scored without the ball even touching the floor with Paddy and Paul Scully orchestrating. In the fourth we eventually pulled away to the final 17 point win total with the last few members of the bench playing in the last couple minutes. This win has us at 3-0 and puts us back top of the table!

A fast start had us run up a 10 point early lead in the first quarter with Mark Hughes and Paddy Sullivan driving to the basket for some good scores and Mikey Deegan scoring freely inside. They came back at us with an even second quarter with us getting scores from Kris Vanhoutte and Shane Mahon also Michael Simpson who scored a nice drive to the basket in his debut. The third quarter was again tight but our defense kept us in the game despite struggling on offense. In the fourth we ran away with it with our offense and defense both clicking we went 19-0 in this quarter with some excellent assists from Paul Scully to Peter Robinson. Ryan Lattin had some slashing moves to the basket resulting in layups for both himself and dishes off for our post players. Nils Fischer and Stephen Leonard both had minimum turnovers and hustled making sure we held our own on the boards. A good performance which puts us 2-0 and top of the division!

We started with a small Lineup of Paddy Sullivan, Mark Hughes, Paul Scully, Shane Mahon and Kris Vanhoutte and despite not having a true post player among them everyone boxed out and we held our own on the boards. We trapped and picked up lost of steals leading to fast break layups from Mark, Paddy and Shane. Paul top scored on 22 with one of his best performances in the Killester Orange. We got dominant rebounding and defensive efforts from our two big guys Peter Robinson and Paul O'Meara who won the rebounding battle even though Kildares big guys were all several inchs bigger. Nils Fischer came off the bench and hit a couple important jump shots to stem a third quarter rally from Kildare. We also welcommed Ryan Lattin who performed well after a year out with a knee injury in which he has grown about half a foot. He did well battling inside in the unfamiliar post position. We look forward to excellent performances from him as he regains full fitness. The lads have had a successfull preseason playing over in Belgium in the Flanders Invitational and playing a series of friendlies last weekend against the City of Birmingham Basketball Club, Templeogue and Delta we look forward to winning some silverware this year!
