The lads played their best basketball of the season tonight convincingly beating a team that finished a spot ahead of us in 2nd place in the league last season. Mikey was very strong tonight and showed some versatility scoring on a variety of moves everything from spin moves to the basket to 18 foot jumpers. Paddy although scoring a more modest total of 12 was equally important as he was pushing the tempo at all time and getting assist after assist mainly to our starting guards Dean and Stephen on fast breaks they were highly effective Stephen especially scoring his highest total of the year showing that he can be a scorer when he wants to AND do it against the better teams. Our group of post players David, Marcus, Andrew and Daniel were all very strong contributing strong defense, dominant offensive rebounding and also points here and there. Our reserve guards Ian, Ray and Gary contributions didnt show much on the scoresheet but the way they filled the lanes on the break really put pressure on the tolka team and caused alot of problems often leading to Killester baskets. With 10 players scoring the depth that is now beginning to grow on this team showed. We are now back on top of the league heading into the christmas break.

A repeat of last weeks fixture was this weeks cup 1st round. We saw a drastically different Delta performance today with them doubling the post and really hustling all over the court. Gary O'Brien opening the scoring on a layup. It was tit for tat the rest of the quarter A big 3 pointer and an elbow jumper from Stephen Leonard pushing us slightly ahead. Ian Lawler came off the bench in the second to devestating effect contributing 10 points. The depth of the squad showed with Luke McGuinness, Ray Kavanagh, Declan Mulligan and Ray kavanagh all coming off the bench in limited minutes and making solid contributions to the cause. Mikey Deegan had a quiet game by his usual standards but knocked down some free throws in the fourth as we started to pull ahead with a big 3 from Paddy and an elbow jumper from David McCormack. Dean Cregan hit a 18 foot shot along the baseling to stretch the lead to a scoreline that to be honest flattered us. But as they say a wins a win and we are through to the quarter final to play Swords.

It was a third win on the trot for the u14s. We ran out to a 5 point lead in the first quarter and extended that lead with every passing quarter. Excellent defense from Luke McGuinness, Declan Mulligan and Gavin Buggy heavily contributed to holding this Delta team to such a low score. Our big men Marcus O’Neill, Andrew Colfer and Gary O’Brien dominated the boards and played provided superb help defense behind our guards. Ian Lawler, Dean Cregan and Stephen Leonard filled the lanes on the break and made great passes to Mikey trailing the break for lay ups. The game was effectively ended in a 1 minute burst in the 3rd when Paddy stepped up and drilled 2 consecutive 3 pointers pushing the lead up to a high of 24 points.

Killesters u14 boys had a great win in our first home game of the season. Beating an excellent swords team in a come from behind victory. We started slow and let swords pick up some easy baskets. Stephen Leonard hit a 20 foot jump shot and Ray Kavanagh had an excellent backdoor cut lay-up to stem a swords run in the second quarter. Mikey and Paddy ran the pick and roll to perfection with 38 points between them. Our big guys Andrew, Gary and Marcus all rebounded and helped start our fast breaks with good outlet passes and Ian lawlers work rate and defense from the wing was exemplary. We were down 5 heading into the fourth but key 3 pointers from Paddy and a vital last minute offensive rebound and put back from David McCormack helped seal the win. The whole squad is really gelling and hopefully we can now build on these wins in our next game home vs Delta on the 27th of this month.

Good away win especially considering we lost in this fixture last year. Great performance from Mikey Deegan who top scored on 21 and stayed in the game despite battling foul trouble. Our point guards Paddy and Dean both did an exceptional job of controlling the tempo and running our offenses with minimal turnovers. Andrew Colfer, David McCormack both did an excellent job on the defensive and offensive boards. We welcomed back Ian Lawler who ran played good defensive from the wing and hit the boards hard. Luke McGuinness, Declan Mulligan and Ray Kavanagh all did well in limited minutes. Marcus O'Neill and Gary O'Brien both excelled in their debuts with scoring four and three points respectively. The lads have have had a good preseason playing in the Flanders Invitational and working hard over the last month in training hopefully this win will be a springboard to winning some silverware this year!
