11890 KIllester 86 - Moycullen 70
11890 Killester are the only unbeaten side in the Nivea for Men Superleague following yesterday’s games. Under the watchful eye of assistant coach Tom Doherty the Dubliners got the better of Moycullen 86-70 to maintain their 100% start while DCU Saints went down 75-67 to UL Eagles.
Killester led from star to finish against Moycullen but some sloppy play at times allowed the westerners back into the game, at one point in the third quarter they went from eighteen up to just five but some superb fourth quarter displays from Peder Madsen (who scored all his 14 points in the final quarter), Eoin Chubb, Jermaine Turner and Mariano Gomez gave the home side a convincing win in the end.
Doherty last coached at superleague level with the club in 1996 and he was full of praise for his charges. “A lot of people didn’t give us a chance at the start of the season but the guys are just a dream to work with and are improving with every game. I am so delighted we got the win in Darren’s (O’Neill) absense and particularly with the fourth quarter performance”said the coach.
DCU Saints and UL Eagles were both going for double wins over the weekend having beaten Bord Gais Neptune and UCD Marian respectively but it was Mark Keenan’s Eagles who came out on top.
“I am delighted, we nearly threw it away but we kept our cool and hopefully this will be a turning point in the season. It should give us great confidence and it validates that when we put it together we are well capable of challenging”.
“We only had nine players available with Scott Kinevane and Stephen King out and I thought we did superbly well. To come away with maximum points from UCD Marian and DCU Saints is a massive boost.” said Keenan.
