Demons at the Oblate
There were wins on the double for 11890 Killester at the Oblate Hall as Mark Grennell’s women beat SuperValu Brunell and Darren O’Neill’s men accounted for UCC Demons in a tough battle.
11890 Killester led from start to finish in the men’s game and recorded their first ton of the season as they beat Paul Kelleher’s UCC Demons 100-84 in a game that had everyting you could ask for in a basketball game, from skill, endeavour, intensity, wonderful shooting and the odd bout of fisticuffs.
Former Demons and North Mon Favourite Francis O’Sullivan whose son Kieran was on the Demons team summed up what he thought of the game,
“It had everything, it was one of the best games I have seen for years and it reminded me of games in the olden days.”
O’ Sullivan was spot on, there was the super shooting of Shane Coughlan who had 18 points (six three pointers). There was the wonderful work from Mike Westbrooks, Kieran O’Brien and Al Casey when Jermaine Turner was in foul troube.
Jermaine hit a game high 29 points and that was despite sitting out for 14 minutes.
11890 Killester coach Darren O’Neill was beaming after the game. “I am so proud of those guys, the workrate was amazing. We really needed a win after the losses against DCU Saints and UL Eagles and it really sets us up nicely for the game against Neptune and the cup tie at home to Moycullen”
