NIVEA WOMEN’S SUPERLEAGUE
UL Basketball 68 11890 Killester 60
In a repeat of last weekend’s game Mark Grennell’s girls put in a much better performance on the road and were just trailing 11-10 with a minute to go in the first quarter when the home side led by Rachel Vanderwal and Aoife McDermott stretched the lead to 19-10 at the end of the quarter.
The second half belonged to the home side as they went on to lead 39-24 at the break.
Killester came much more into things in the scond half with fine performances from Elaine Stone, Alison Maguire and Aisling O’Sullivan to leave the final score 68-60.
Mark Grennell summed up his sides performance. “Our first half performance killed us, they are an excellent side at punishing your mistakes. We had to make a few adjustments in the second half and some of them worked. Vanderwal and McDermott were excellemt for them, they sat in the zone and broke quickly and punished us but overall it was not a bad performance and we will be hoping that we can do what we did in the second half today, against Wildcats tomorrow” said Grennell.
