Sunday 12th of October

Well this is my first blog for the website so I hope everyone enjoys it and tunes in every week for this and hopefully many other things being updated on the site.

This is a bit weird being asked to write a blog but I said I’d do it and see what happens, so here goes..Wish me luck! Just a little about myself firstly. My full name is Robert Philip Kenneth Jesus Grennell Clarke or Robert P. Clarke VI for short. I live in a lovely area out by the coast called Bayside in north Dublin (the nice side). My mother, Philly is one of the famous Killester Kittens from back in the day and my father, well I’m sure you’ve heard him, yes its Mr Kenny Clarke. Some people may not know this but I actually have an older sister, Jackie. She was the smart one that got out of Ireland and moved to Spain about 4 years ago. I think she predicted the economy would suck a bit down the road and just bailed. Then my favourite in the family is my younger sister, Michelle, otherwise known as Mimi. People know her as the one with the talent in the family, but I strongly disagree. I still beat her in 1-on-1! I’ve been working in Denis Mahony the past eight months. It’s a car garage situated around the corner from me which is handy in the morning! My boss is the legendary Bobby Doyle who was a star on the Dublin Gaelic team in the 70’s alongside Brian Mullins and the likes. So now on to the real stuff…

Monday night is our first night of practice in the week. We normally talk about our game we played that weekend, which happened to be against our southside friends, Hoops. It was a tough game which we end up winning by 7 points. After watching it on the internet the other night I was asking myself how people stayed awake for all of it cos it was boring! We didn’t perform well but still came out with the W, giving us confidence for today’s game against UCD Marian and giving Coach Keenan a lot of work to do during the week in our other trainings. Unfortunately I wasn’t at training on Wednesday as I was in London with my lady friend, Elaine for the Day 26 concert. Day 26 are the band that won singing contracts on P. Diddy’s show, Making The Band 4 which is on MTV Base on Thursday nights at 9. We flew over and got three trains to where we were staying. The concert was in the O2 arena in Greenwich. It is an amazing venue. I was hoping the girl band from the show, Danity Kane were gonna be there so I could see my future wife, Aubrey. Ah man she’s so hot! Instead of seeing her and the other hotties we got to see English rappers and other wannabees. English rap is the worst thing in the world. But after two hours of tormenting us with English rap Day 26 finally came on and to be fair it was worth the wait. They were class. Elaine got a bit excited when the lads start taking their clothes off though! So the next day we had to rush and get three trains back to the airport to catch our flight, which we nearly missed. We finally got home just in time for dinner before I got a well needed power nap in before I headed off for a Thursday night training. It was an enjoyable training to set us up for today’s game as we got to scrimmage a lot. As normal we had good banter especially when I arrived with the “In Paddy We Trust” bands! It was hilarious! Hopefully there will be more merchandise coming in the next few weeks. If you are interested in getting “In Paddy Kelly We Trust” t-shirts or anything else please leave an order with any of the Directors of the business, either myself, John Behan or Mark Grennell. Another great thing about going training is me and John Behan practice our dance routine for the line outs before games. I think we should go with the Congo dancing but Jizzle reckons we should do the slaps into the robot, but the robot is like so last year when Peter Crouch did it! Friday night I went to the cinema to see Tropic Thunder, which was a mediocre at best film. A few good quotes but not suitable for this! Then I went to Matt Kelly’s 21st for a few sociable drinks and to smash glasses! Haha! Saturday I had to go to Tolka Rovers where Elaine was playing Glanmire. And as everyone thought, Glanmire put on a show running out 38 point winners. To be fair, Glanmire are class. I stayed for Tolka men to play Sligo in an awful game. My friend Jackson Baker was killing though. Then it was home to bed for me to rest for today’s game. I travelled out to the game with my big cuz Jonny and Mike Westbrook’s. We were all looking forward to the game cos if we won it would mean we would go top of the conference. And that we did. We beat UCD by 3. Didn’t start off well but got the finger out in the 2nd quarter and went in at the break up 16. Then in the 3rd they hit shot after shot at the start of the period. It was pretty close in the 4th with their new yank, Parker causing us trouble. They even took a 1 point lead with 3 minutes to go but I knew the lads would come through in the clutch and that we did. John “Hang Time” Behan was brilliant hitting 26 and then everyone else chipping in. To celebrate the win myself Elaine and Eva (Tolka’s yank) went to Eddie Rockets.

Back to work and then training tomorrow to get ready for Saturday’s clash with Limerick. It’s our first double header of the season with the ladies playing Tolka at 6 in the IWA followed by our game at 8. It brings me up against my old nemesis, Scott Kinevane and our old coach, Sasa. I’m looking forward to the game already. I hope everyone reading comes to the game to cheer both men and women on!

Well til next time, you stay classy Killester!
