Tipping off our Inside Killester Quiz this week, we grabbed five minutes with Jonny Grennell and Paddy Kelly to test their Killester knowledge ... You will get 1 point for every correct answer!

Question one: Easy one, what year did you guys start playing Superleague?
PK: Ok, I’ll start by saying that I’m the complete underdog in this little test and Jonny is laughing to himself. Oul “stato” here will fancy his chances big time. Anyway, away we go. I’ll go with 1998….unless that’s wrong! In which case I’ll go for 1997 :-)
KW: Ah good start, Correct! You cant be wrong when you guess both right!!
JG: 11 seasons now – that would make it the 97-98 season when I started. Played my first pre-season game against St Vincents. My first assignment was to guard the Irish National Team point guard. Who knew he’d be coaching us 9 years later!
KW: Correct - We must revist how that game went!

DART Killester have had 6 different head coaches since you started, can you name them?
PK: Uhhh, eh, Mark Kennan, Pete Ferrari, Ken Black, Jerome Westbrooks, Sasa Punesasiviidiidjjidfjsiicicijidi (to be filled in at a later date) and ….. Todd James.
KW: Ouch Paddy, 5/6, you left out Mark Ingle...
JG: In order, Pete Ferrari (Pat Grennell as assistant), Mark Ingle, Ken Black, Jerome Westbrooks, Sasa Punosevac and Mark Keenan (Ed Randolph as assistant).
KW: Correct

You guys were both part of the 2001 Cup winning team, Can you name the team you beat in the Semi Final and then the Final of the cup?
PK: Alright, the semi final is a bit of a struggle, but I’ll take a guess and say Denny Notre Dame? In the final we beat… eh, … Ballina!!!
KW: Perfect
JG: We beat 5 in a row chasing Big Als. Ed Randolph worked them that day. 19 points on baseline jumpers. We beat Ballina in the final.
KW: Good job we did! Correct

Along with you two… there were 2 other members that were still with the club to win the National Cup last season, who were they?
PK: Now that can’t be anyone but “the rookies” J and Ed.
JG: Ed Randolph and Jerome Westbrooks.
KW: A bit easy... Both right.

Who wore the number 15 jersey for Killester last season?
PK: I reckon it had to be “Napolean”? Just to clarify that, I mean Bonaparte. No doubt Jonny will be looking for a stewards enquiry if it’s close at the end.
KW: He might be looking for a first name... but i'll give it to you!!! Correct
JG: Michael “Hey Clarkie” Bonaparte
KW: Correct

The Boss, Mark Keenan coached 4 different Superleague clubs. Can you name all four?
PK: Killester, UCD Marian, St Vincents I’m certain of. I’ll take a stab at the last team and say Tolka Rovers.
KW: Good Stab - Correct
JG: He assisted to Martin McGettrick with Tolka, he coached Vincents and UCD Marian (with Ed) before coming to Killester. I think he is in talks about coaching Hoops in the future so he can say he coached every team in Dublin.
KW: haha very good - Correct

In the past two season’s, talking win’s and loses in league play only, what is your record as a team?
PK: Ha ha! Nice one. I’ve no doubt Jonny has this memorised. I think we played 21 games last year and it would have been 20 the year before. Ok, we lost 4 last year and I think we lost 4 the year before that. A bit of a guess but I’d say 33 and 8?
KW: Agh sorry, very close... 32-9
JG: 15 – 5 and 17 – 4. Both years we started relatively slowly. We got hammered by Hoops in the 4th game of that first year (30 points) and last year, we pulled out a miracle win against Demons (a Paddy Kelly 3 pointer with no time left). Both games kick started our season.
KW: Perfect, even if I only asked for the record!! No bonus points here.

Between the two of you, there has been 4 playing numbers used at Superleague level, Can you give us all 4?
PK: I reckon the upper hand goes to me here. Most of the changes are mine. Any time anyone goes for no. 9 the rattle comes out of the pram! ;o) If I’m right, it’s been a very long time since someone other than a Grennell has worn the no.9? Anyway, no. 9 for Jonny and 11, 7 and 21 for me.
KW: Your right!
JG: 4 numbers. 9 was my number. 7, 11 and 21 were Paddy’s. Paddy always wanted 11 but we had this super player called Michael McMahon who had always worn 11 and there was no way he was giving it up so Paddy had to wait until he retired.
KW: Yes, He was deserving of the number 11 shirt.

This season and last, can you tell me how many different nationalities have played for DART Killester?
PK: I’d say 6 different nationalities.
KW: Your dead right!
JG: 1 Polish (“Right Price Tiles”), 1 Hungarian (“Tommy V”), 1 Grenadine (“Hey Clarkie”), 1 Ivory Coast (are they called Ivorians?), 4 americans (Mikey W, Jerome, Ed and Jim – I’m not sure if the first three want to be counted as americans but just to be sure) and the Irish players
KW: Yeah thats right.

Can you tell me how many years our Polish man, Mike Goj has played with the team?
PK: Mike has played 2 years and this is his 3rd. Hopefully many more to come.
JG: This is his 3rd year. Mark has a habit of bringing random strangers to training. Michael was the first (of many) but he was the only one who stuck!
KW: Both correct!!

You guys played in two Major finals last season, can you name the top scorer in each game? For a bonus point, can you give me the exact total in each game?
PK: In the Cup final I think Arnaud had 22 pts? In the League final I think Donaghy had 22 also.
JG: Cup Final is an easy one, I watch it once a week. Arnoud was top scorer in the final of the cup (22 points), him and Bonaparte were seriously trying to pad some stats at the end of the game. Bonaparte was leading scorer in the league final. I don’t think anyone else got double figures. I’d say 18 points.
KW: I'm awarding both 2 points here, as my question was not the clearest! Both good answers!

Under what coach and in what year did Robbie Clarke make his debut for the Superleague team?
PK: I think Robbie made his debut in 2005 under Sasa.
JG: He doesn’t stop banging on about it. He’s the second longest serving player on the team (for consecutive years) at 5. That would mean he started back in 2004/05 under Jerome?
KW: To be honest, Robbie doesnt even know the answer... He thinks he was on the Cup winning team in 1987. Both awarded points!

How many league playoff titles has Damien Sealy won in his Career?
PK: As far as I’m aware, Damo has one playoff title. Our win versus Ballina in 2006/07. With a bit of luck he’ll be adding a few more to that tally in the future.
JG: He didn’t win anything the first time around with Killester. He won three cups with Hoops but don’t think they won the league. He won the league in 2001 but that wasn’t a playoff. I’m going for 1. Pretty pathetic return for 27 years in the league if you ask me!!
KW: Very good both of you! Come on DAMO get a few more man!!!

And to finish lad’s, together as a pair, how many National Titles & MVP’s in finals have you won throughout your whole career to date with the club?
PK: Eh, these are the type of questions I usually pass onto Jonny but he’ll not be so forthcoming this time. Ok, so we’ve won the SuperLeague title twice and the Senior National Cup twice. I guess National titles doesn’t refer to the Northern Conference? Underage level we’ve won 2 Junior Men’s National Cups. MVP honours we’ve won 4 in total. 1 SuperLeague Final, 1 Senior National Cup and 2 Junior National Cup.
JG: We won the U19 Cup twice, both getting one MVP although Gary Dredge should of got it the year Paddy won it and Shane Russell should have got it the year I won it. We’ve won 2 Senior National Cups, Paddy getting the MVP and we’ve won two league titles (with Paddy getting MVP in one of them). Do you notice a trend? I’m going for 10.
KW: Ahh very good both perfect again!

TOTAL:
PK: 13 / 15
JG: 15 / 15

In a very close but good natured battle, this time..... Jonny wins!
